Sewa Bharti is one of the largest NGO working for the upliftment & empowerment of neglected and under-privileged sections of society, Particularly women, since its inception in 1979 in Delhi.
The efforts of Sewa Bharti for women empowerment have appreciated both by the society as well as by the government. In Oct. 2002 Sewa Bharti received the    ‘ Durga Bai Deshmukh Award’ for the empowerment of women.
Former President of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam also appreciated the work of Sewa Bharti.
In these days of rising prices and increasing domestic needs, it is almost impossible for one person of a poor family to take the entire economic load of his family. He needs the support of other members of the family. Besides looking after the children, the women compulsorily have to come forward to provide economic support to the family.
Since they are unskilled, they generally tend to get low-paid tiring menial jobs.

Keeping this thought in mind, Sewa Bharti has come forward to set up a Fashion Designing & Merchandising center to train the slum dwellers more professionally, so that they can support their families. The students trained through this program will be updated with the present fashion industry of our country. These students will be given 1 year diploma certificate after the course which will be at par with the well known fashion institutes in Delhi. To make them more confident with the outside world, these children will also be given practical training at garment manufacturers, exporters, retailers and designer boutiques which will bound to boost their inner strength and become independent.

Some of the areas where Sewa Bharti Fashion designing institute is keen to work is :
1) Traditional dresses blended with western wear (Fusion wear)
2) Creative designer dresses for school/university functions
3) Putting up fashion shows
4) Creating designers who appreciates traditional wear and is trained to bring new concepts from history.
5) Promoting online selling of garments produced by the students on their own.
