Kishori Vikas
Kishori Vikas
Through this project, all subjects such as making adolescent girls healthy, educated, balanced, self-reliant, confident, judicious, aware, independent, capable citizens who are able to protect themselves and understand their own worth are included in this curriculum.
The most sensitive phase of a human's life is adolescence, especially for girls, because they are often unable to express their feelings to anyone, nor do they possess enough understanding at that stage to manage themselves. This is due to the many changes occurring within girls during adolescence, which can lead to a state of confusion or distraction in their minds. Keeping this situation in mind, Seva Bharati is running this project for the physical, mental, social, and intellectual development of adolescent girls, which is known as Kishori Vikas (Adolescent Development).
Physical Development
Adolescent girls are taught to play various types of games, incorporate Yoga and Pranayama into their daily routine, take care of their personal hygiene, manage their diet and nutrition, understand the physical changes occurring within them, and are taught about our culture and values through storytelling. They are also instructed on keeping themselves healthy through home remedies for common illnesses, as well as basic first aid and self-defense.
Mental Development
Similarly, for mental development, to ensure that the adolescent girls do not experience any form of mental depression, they are provided with information on topics such as stress management, positive thinking, self-assessment, the inclusion of life values, judicious thinking, emotional balance, and time management.
Social Development
To help adolescent girls enhance their personality while living in society, healthy discussions are held with the girls on various topics so that their social development can occur. These topics include: discussing effective personalities, what good communication skills should be like, how to develop leadership ability within them, the importance of family, the significance of our social and cultural values, how relationships with society should be maintained, and how environmental conservation can be improved.
Intellectual Development
For an adolescent girl to become a skilled woman of the future, it is essential for her to have a good intellectual level. For their intellectual development, discussions are held with the girls on: discussing any subject in society, how problems can be solved, and how their role towards the nation can be further enhanced. They discuss what their role in social work should be and how to fulfill their responsibilities. Such discussions are conducted with the adolescent girls, emphasizing that performing their duties while keeping the nation's interest in mind should be their moral responsibility.
The project also focuses on developing their talents so that they can establish themselves in society, ensuring that the girls maintain harmonious relationships with their families, and teaching them how to articulate their thoughts. Additionally, the project includes organizing competitions from time to time and providing skill development training to make them self-reliant. All these subjects are also part of this project.
This project run by Seva Bharati is community-based (basti-based). Each center operates weekly for 2 hours. A local female teacher conducts the class in a friendly manner, and Seva Bharati worker-sisters provide guidance periodically. Currently, 13 centers are running in Seva Bharati Delhi, with 15 to 20 girls attending each class.
